FAQs for Pet Owners
Pet Sitting NZ is New Zealand’s professional association for the pet sitting industry. It’s our mission to improve the welfare of pets and their owners by providing professional support and training, and through our PSNZ Code of Conduct.
As part of our work, we provide a Pet Sitter Directory where PSNZ members can advertise their services, and a Business Directory showcasing alternative pet care service businesses.
Learn more on our About page.
As independent pet sitters and business owners, each PSNZ member provides their own list of services, from doggy daycare to in-home or on-farm pet sitting. Get in touch with a pet sitter directly to learn more about what they offer.
As independent pet sitters and business owners, each PSNZ member sets their own pricing, as well as their own terms and conditions. Contact a pet sitter through the Pet Sitter Directory to learn about their rates.
Browse our Pet Sitter Directory to find a PSNZ member near you, and get in touch with them using their directory listing. You’ll need to create a free account to see pet sitters’ contact details, but don’t worry - we’ll only email you if you choose to sign up to our newsletter!
It’s important to know that when you engage a PSNZ member, your agreement is with that business or individual. PSNZ provides a platform for pet sitters to promote their businesses, but is not involved in the transaction.
Browse the Pet Sitter Directory, filtering by the kind of pets you have, and the region you’re in.
Each PSNZ member has a bio on their profile, where they’ll tell you about themselves and their pet sitting experience. Look for the PSNZ Badge; this shows that the pet sitter has made a commitment to follow our Code of Conduct.
We encourage you to have a chat with your pet sitter before booking. PSNZ members are animal lovers too, and they’ll be happy to answer your questions and make sure you’re feeling comfortable.
Look for the PSNZ Badge on your pet sitter’s profile. This badge shows that they operate in line with the PSNZ Code of Conduct, which includes complying with all relevant New Zealand legislation and prohibits the use of force or fear-based training, along with other important safety and animal welfare measures.
You can read the full Code of Conduct here.
The PSNZ Facebook group is another great place to find a pet sitter; not all of our Members have chosen to have a profile on our website, but they may be active in our group.
If none of our members are available on your chosen dates, we recommend browsing our online directory for alternative pet care providers or posting in your local community Facebook group.
As each PSNZ member is an independent business owner, you will need to resolve any disputes with the pet sitter directly.
If you believe a PSNZ member has breached our Code of Conduct, please contact us as we take this extremely seriously.
